Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.
The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of Consistency
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the world number one, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka ended the season with a 63-12 match record, and collected a record eleven million pounds in earnings.
She received nearly 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking 13-month break after the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after capturing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
