Rob Edwards along with O'Neil represent the early names in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the team's 10-match winless start to the Premier League season.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the team - are part of the options to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

However the ex- Luton Town head coach - who played more than 100 of games for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of appointing a fresh manager.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United player is out of work which means Wolves would not be required to provide any buyout fee.
